About the Author

Mila B. Lazarova is an Associate Professor of International Management at Simon Fraser University, Canada. Her research interests include expatriate management, work/life balance issues related to assignments, global careers, and comparative human resource management. She has published numerous papers in scholarly journals and edited volumes and currently sits on four editorial boards. She is the Associate Director of the Centre for Global Workforce Strategy at SFU.

Michael J. Morley is Professor of Management at the Kemmy Business School, University of Limerick, Ireland, where he teaches international management. He is Associate Editor of the Journal of Managerial Psychology, Regional Editor of the European Journal of International Management and is a member of the Editorial Board of several other international journals He is the current Chair of the Irish Academy of Management and is President Elect of the International Federation of Scholarly Associations of Management.

Shaun Tyson is Emeritus Professor of Human Resource Management at Cranfield University, UK, where he taught and directed the Human Resource Research Centre for over 20 years. .He has been an academic for 30 years, following a career as an HR executive working in the private sector, as well as working in the Civil Service on labour market analysis and on Development. Joseph P. Ferguson argues there have been several previous occasions when rapprochement seemed possible, which in the end proved elusive: rapprochement frequently becoming the victim of domestic factors which frequently worked against and took precedence over good relations. The book concludes with an assessment of the present situation and of how relations are likely to develop in the immediate future.

Joseph P. Ferguson is Vice President of the National Council for Eurasian and East European Research and Adjunct Professor at the University of Washington. He is also Associate Editor of the journal Problems of Post-Communism. While not indisputable, author's arguments for cyclical nature and patterns in Russo-Japanese relations are insightful and thought-provoking. As these relations continue to evolve, it will be interesting to see if they conform to the patterns posited by Ferguson. Archaeology has been an important source of metaphors for some of the key intellectuals of the 20th century: Sigmund Freud, Walter Benjamin, Alois Riegl and Michel Foucault, amongst many others. However, this power has also turned against archaeology, because the discipline has been dealt with perfunctorily as a mere provider of metaphors that other intellectuals have exploited. Scholars from different fields continue to explore areas in which archaeologists have been working for over two centuries, with little or no reference to the discipline. It seems that excavation, stratigraphy or ruins only become important at a trans-disciplinary level when people from outside archaeology pay attention to them and somehow dematerialize them. Meanwhile, archaeologists have been usually more interested in borrowing theories from other fields, rather than in developing the theoretical potential of the same concepts that other thinkers find so useful.

The time is ripe for archaeologists to address a wider audience and engage in theoretical debates from a position of equality, not of subalternity. Reclaiming Archaeology explores how archaeology can be useful to rethink modernity’s big issues, and more specifically late modernity (broadly understood as the 20th and 21st centuries). The book contains a series of original essays, not necessarily following the conventional academic rules of archaeological writing or thinking, allowing rhetoric to have its place in disclosing the archaeological. In each of the four sections that constitute this book (method, time, heritage and materiality), the contributors deal with different archaeological tropes, such as excavation, surface/depth, genealogy, ruins, fragments, repressed memories and traces. They criticize their modernist implications and rework them in creative ways, in order to show the power of archaeology not just to understand the past, but also the present.

Reclaiming Archaeology includes essays from a diverse array of archaeologists who have dealt in one way or another with modernity, including scholars from non-Anglophone countries who have approached the issue in original ways during recent years, as well as contributors from other fields who engage in a creative dialogue with archaeology and the work of archaeologists.

I've been reading part of this book on Google books and decided to rent this on my kindle so that I could see it all. Unfortunately, when I downloaded this file (here on Amazon), it was a book with 50+ chapters and not the 11-chapter book I was reading on Google. Not sure where the difference comes from and I don't have time to investigate -- just check the TOC before you buy to be sure this is what you want! (It's probably a fine book; just not the book with same title and author that I need to read today!)

Real "Buddhist Therapy" - no-nonsense RECBT

This book is like one that could be written by Buddha (or at least one of his best followers), if he had lived in our times. I mainly mean the writing style - highly concise, clear, rational and yes, with a lot of repetitive patterns to finally get the main point :)

Actually, it is a "2-in-1" product - you get the complete "Client's Guide", and embedded suggestions for clinicians, which form the "Practicioner's Guide". Regarding "Client's" part - this is not your traditional self-help: it's very formular, action-oriented and pretty scientific (however, not so much that it becomes "rocket science").

As it follows from headline, purpose of this work is to aid the practice of emotional transformation. Very interesting approach of RECBT, particularly emphasized in Dryden's works - that every emotion has it's healty and toxic form, and when dealing with negative emotions, we shouldn't try to change them for positive or "neutral". Instead - we "must" (conditionally, of course - if we want to improve our mental health) transform emotion from toxic form to more healthy and constructive one; it's a radical change - we don't even try to feel "less anxious", we aim to feel concerned, it's radically different feeling of the same nature.

And yes - like it's postulated in RECBT, the form and effect of emotion is determined by underlying beliefs, mostly unconsious cognitive shemas that we have about it. Irrational, rigid and extreme beliefs define the "toxicity", destructive power of the emotion; and respectively, rational, flexible and moderate make it more constructive and harmonious.

Anyway - it's invaluable source of knowledge and techniques for pretty mush anyone involved or just interested in mental health improvement; even if you're just a "curious layman", this one book worth minimum 8 random others from the "Self-Help" category. If you practice REBT or CBT - it's a "hard must" :)
