The relationship between television and politics is examined, and also the role of television as entertainment, as well as its role in nation building and the projection of a national identity. About the Author

Birgit Beumers is Reader in Russian at the University of Bristol. She completed her D.Phil at St Antony’s College, Oxford and specialises on contemporary Russian culture, especially cinema and theatre. Her publications include Burnt by the Sun (2000), Nikita Mikhalkov (2005), PopCulture: Russia! (2005) and, as editor, Russia on Reels: The Russian Idea in Post-Soviet Cinema (1999) and 24 Frames: Russia and the Soviet Union (2007). She is editor of the online journal KinoKultura and of the journal Studies in Russian and Soviet Cinema.

Stephen Hutchings has a Chair in Russian Studies at the University of Manchester, having previously been Professor of Cultural Studies at the University of Surrey, and Associate Professor of Russian at the University of Rochester, New York. He has published three monographs, two edited volumes, and numerous articles on aspects of Russian literature, film and media.

Natalia Rulyova is a Lecturer in Russian at the Centre for Russian and East European Studies, University of Birmingham since 2006. She completed her PhD on Joseph Brodsky at the University of Cambridge. Subsequently, she was a lecturer and research fellow at the University of Surrey, where she worked on the project ‘Post-Soviet Television Culture’ headed by Stephen Hutchings. She has authored and edited a number of articles on Russian poetry in translation, film and media, and is currently co-writing a monograph on post-Soviet television culture.

Rather, the author demonstrates there are many voices that can provide insight and understandings of war rape and its impact without having to compromise the safety and privacy of individual victims. Finally, the book shows the ways in which individual experiences of war rape are shaped by national and international discourses on gender, sexuality and politics.

In order to tease out their commonalities and differences, it describes political, economic, and social backgrounds, identifies the primary actors and institutions, and explores the mechanisms behind the asset price bubbles, crashes, and bank-runs. Second, it starts with basic economic concepts and builds five competing theoretical approaches to understanding financial crises. Competing theoretical standpoints offer different interpretations of the same event, and draw dissimilar policy implications.

This book analyses divergent interpretations of the historical record in relation to how markets function, the significance of market imperfections, economic decision-making process, the role of the government, and evolutionary dynamics of the capitalist system. The approach adopted of first documenting financial crises and then explaining those using alternative theoretical approaches is very effective. This method applied as a climax of the book to the 2007-2008 financial crisis successfully reinforces earlier lessons.

This book offers and employs a rich theoretical framework for examining, assessing and understanding the multiplicity of forces generating specific crises over an especially long run - from tulip mania and the Mississippi Bubble all of the way up to what the author coins as "The Latest Act: The Crash of the 2000s." About the Author

Lauraine Leigh is a dramatherapist and teacher who has worked over 18 years with a range of children in the NHS and in mainstream and special schools and units, with behavioural difficulties, special needs and mental health diagnoses, promoting close communication with and support of parents and teachers around the child.

Irvine Gersch is Professor of Educational and Child Psychology at the University of East London (UEL). He is a chartered educational psychologist and chartered scientist. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, The Royal Society of Arts and the Higher Education Academy. He is the Programme Director for the Professional Doctorate in Applied Educational and Child Psychology at UEL and a Director of Global Mediation.

Ann Dix is a freelance dramatherapist and supervisor. Prior to this she was manager of a multi agency support team in Leeds, working with schools, children and families. Ann was a drama teacher before qualifying as a dramatherapist in 1993.

Deborah Haythorne is the co-founder and co-director of Roundabout, the largest dramatherapy charity in the UK. Deborah qualified as a dramatherapist in 1985 and completed her research on dramatherapy with children with autistic spectrum disorder in 1996.
